International Data Corp. reports that the global cloud IT infrastructure market achieved a 25.1-percent year-over-year growth in sales revenue to reach $6.3 billion in the first quarter.
IDC said Thursday spending also grew from 26.4 percent of overall first-quarter IT infrastructure spending last year to almost 30 percent this year.
The growth is due to increasing demand in both the private and public cloud segments for infrastructure products such as servers, storage and Ethernet switches, the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Cloud IT Infrastructure Tracker report stated.
“Cloud IT infrastructure growth continues to outpace the growth of the overall IT infrastructure market, driven by the transition of workloads onto cloud-based platforms,” said Kuba Stolarski, research manager for server, virtualization and workload research at IDC.
“[This suggests] that customers are open to a broad array of hybrid deployment scenarios as they modernize their IT for the [third] platform, begin to deploy next-gen software solutions and embrace modern management processes that enable agile, flexible and extensible cloud platforms.”
The report also noted that sales revenues for cloud IT infrastructure grew in nearly all regions except Central and Eastern Europe.
IDC’s report named the following key vendors ranked by revenue in the first quarter of 2015:
- HP
- Dell
- Cisco
- EMC
- NetApp
- Lenovo
