IBM has integrated Nvidia’s dual graphics processing unit boards with its cloud-based SoftLayer bare metal servers in an effort to help companies manage analytics and big data workloads in a cloud environment.
IBM said Wednesday customers will now be able to use Nvidia Tesla K80 GPU accelerators on its IBM Cloud infrastructure-as-a-service platform to handle large-scale data and run applications.
The dual-GPU platform is designed to store up to 24 gigabytes of memory and offer a computing speed rate of up to 2.91 tera floating point operations per second.
New York University and startup firms MapD and Artomatix are some of the institutions that have started adopting Tesla K80 GPU accelerators on IBM cloud infrastructure, according to IBM.
