Hewlett-Packard and NEC have agreed to combine their offerings in an effort to help communications service providers develop and introduce services based on the network functions virtualization concept.
HP said Tuesday it will integrate its OpenNFV Platform and Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade cloud-based offering with NEC’s virtual network tools in order to build an open architecture that complies with the European Telecommunications Standards Institute NFV Industry Specification Group standard.
Both companies also intend to design an NFV-based reference tool as they seek to deploy NEC’s management software and virtual network offerings on HP’s OpenNFV platform for both Linux Kernel-based Virtual Machine infrastructure and OpenStack cloud environment.
