NeuroHabilitation Corp. will conduct a trial of an experimental device that aims to treat balance disorder in subjects with mild-to-moderate form of traumatic brain injuries under a sole-source contract with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command.
The Helius Medical Technologies division will test the efficacy and safety of the Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator, which works to stimulate the tongue’s cranial nerves through a non-invasive process, Helius said Tuesday.
“Our long term commitment to the PoNS technology will help advance the clinical trials and [Food and Drug Administration] submission process,†said Dr. Kenneth Bertram, principal assistant for acquisition at the command.
“If successful, we will be able to deploy this technology to our service members,†he added.
NHC will also sponsor the regulatory process for the PoNS platform under a modification to a collaborative research contract with USAMRMC.
