Ensco to Equip Canadian Nat’l Railway Vehicles With Track Inspection Systems

A business unit of Ensco will provide track geometry measurement and machine vision joint bar inspection systems for two hi-rail vehicles of the Canadian National Railway as part of efforts to ensure safer railway operations.

The company said Tuesday Ensco Rail will equip the hi-rail vehicles with its RailScan Lite Track Geometry Measurement System and Joint Bar Inspection System to support track condition assessment functions.

RSL-TGMS uses laser and inertial sensor technology to support the track inspection process, while the Joint Bar Inspection System uses machine vision to pinpoint defects in the joint bars.

Ensco noted that the systems meet both Transport Canada and U.S. Federal Railroad Administration regulations.

The company added that it will also integrate the systems into the Canadian National Railway’s internal data management systems to facilitate remedial action planning and data analysis.
