Concurrent Technologies CorpConcurrent Technologies Corp. has received a U.S. patent for a magnesium-based battery intended to power water purification machines for the production of drinkable water in disaster-struck areas and remote locations.

The MagC carbon battery is designed to produce energy through the use of magnesium and applies saltwater brine derived from reverse osmosis-based waste stream as an electrolyte, CTC said Tuesday.

MagC also works to generate hydrogen and exportable power for use in austere environments.

Michael Pollock, senior director of advanced concepts and prototyping at CTC, holds the patent for MagC.
