BAE Systems‘ U.S. arm has been awarded a potential $32.6 million contract to help the U.S. Navy repair and maintain the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD7).
The company said Monday it will refurbish the ship’s tank, ventilation and auxiliary systems, habitability space and other structures.
“We look forward to welcoming Iwo Jima back to Naval Station Mayport later this summer,†said David Thomas, director of ship repair at BAE’s Jacksonville and Mayport shipyards.
The firm-fixed-price contract has an initial $26.8 million value and the one-year base period of performance will run from Aug. 31, 2015, to July 1, 2016.
