DigitalGlobe has partnered with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency to launch the Hootenanny open source project in an effort to offer developers software tools for crowdsourced mapping and geospatial big data analytics functions.
DigitalGlobe said Monday Hootenanny features the interactive iD Editor interface for editing map features and the OpenStreetMap architecture for integrating geospatial big data.
“Our human geography product contains over 1.6 million POIs aggregated across 1,500 unique sources,” said Tony Frazier, senior vice president for U.S. government solutions at DigitalGlobe.
He noted that Hootenanny will work to fuse data from the company’s satellite imagery and other public sources of information.
DigitalGlobe added that the project has an open library of algorithms for data conflation and supports geospatial Extract Transform Load functions.
“Hootenanny as an open source project will enable new levels of data sharing across the community that will increase our nation’s ability to quickly respond to emerging threats,” said Chris Rasmussen, public open source software development lead at NGA.
