Sterling Global Operations Seeks Retirement Homes for Military Working Dogs; Paul Lane Comments

Sterling Global Operations has launched a program that aims to find retirement homes for dogs that have performed explosive detection and search-and-rescue functions for military troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“We’ve so far found homes for 18 dogs sent back to the U.S. from Afghanistan,” Paul Lane, director of operations at SGO, said Thursday.

“There are 22 in service at present that will be returned to the U.S. in the next two years.”

SGO trains dogs of different breeds to perform certain tasks for troops and foreign national civilians in war-torn countries for a span of eight years, Lane said.

The stability operations firm said it requires potential adopters to complete an application form and screens potential dog owners through home visits.

SGO has approximately 6,000 employees that provide logistics, intelligence, munitions response and risk management support services for government and commercial clients.
