Northrop Grumman has been awarded a $31.7 million contract to produce an anti-missile system for the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Command.
The company is scheduled to complete the delivery of three new pods to the military customers by 2017, Northrop Grumman said Monday.
Carl Smith, vice president of Northrop’s infrared countermeasure programs, land and self-protection systems division, said the role-fit pod configuration is designed for various military and commercial aircraft.
The anti-missile system will be installed in the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Command’s KC-135 aircraft.
The pod incorporates the large aircraft infrared countermeasures block 30 configuration of new system processor technology, infrared missile warning sensors, the Viper laser and a fresh control interface unit.
