Northrop Grumman has won contracts worth $74 million to upgrade the targeting pods onboard the F-16 multirole fighter aircraft of the Air Force Reserve Command and Air National Guard.
The company said Monday the upgrade work intends to equip the F-16 jets with the AN/AAQ-28(V) Litening G4 targeting and surveillance system’s digital video processing functions to help improve the situational awareness capability for pilots.
Northrop will also provide spares for the targeting pods under the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.
The Litening G4 pod has charge-coupled sensors, color symbology, 1K forward-looking infrared and short-wave laser infrared imaging components.
