Lockheed Martin has conducted the first flight test for its Legion Pod system integrated into an F-16 fighter aircraft to check the system’s capability for detecting and tracking several airborne targets.
The company said Tuesday Legion Pod features an IRST21 infrared sensor, networking and data processing functions and an open systems architecture.
“Legion Pod is a production-ready, multisensor system,” added Paul Lemmo, vice president of fire control at Lockheed Martin’s missiles and fire control business.
Lockheed noted that Legion Pod works to meet U.S. Air Force requirements for the F-15C infrared search and track program.
Tests will continue through the end of the year using F-16 and F-15C aircraft, the company said.
