Booz Allen Hamilton has introduced two Internet of Things-based prototypes – a system that intend to keep hospital patients’ data secure and another device designed to send alerts to firefighters and other first-responders during emergency situations, the IoT Journal reported Tuesday.
Mary Catherine O’Connor writes Walton Smith, a principal at Booz Allen, said a location-based system prototype dubbed District Defend is designed to protect patients’ electronic medical records from any authorized access by equipping mobile devices with external sensors that require authentication.
Booz Allen is collaborating with Intel and other firms to bring to market the security system for medical uses, Smith announced at the IoT World conference in San Francisco.
The Virginia-based technology consulting firm also demonstrated an exoskeleton device prototype that intends to detect environmental hazards and wirelessly transmit alerts to command centers and first responders, O’Connor reports.
Smith said the biometric sensor-based device aims to “give real-time updates on the user’s health status and the conditions around them.â€
