Royal Philips has agreed to partner with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to develop medical technologies that seek to detect and treat cardiovascular disease, cancer and other conditions while reducing healthcare costs.
Under the five-year, $25 million research alliance, the company will transfer its research facility to Cambridge, Massachusetts, and work with MIT researchers to study and design connected, digital lighting platforms for use in populated areas, Philips said Tuesday.
“The Boston area is rich with innovative talent that is regularly applying new thinking to solving big societal issues and developing disruptive technologies that can address those issues in new ways,†said Henk van Houten, global head of Philips Research.
“By moving to Cambridge and collaborating with MIT, its staff and its partners, Philips can work with some of the best minds in the world on healthcare delivery… and explore advancements in connected lighting systems.â€
