Northrop Grumman will install version 9.3 of its Voyage Management System on the U.S. Navy‘s SSN and SSGN nuclear-powered attack submarines through the end of 2016.
The company said Monday the Navy approved the VMS 9.3 installation on 55 SSNs and four SSGNs deployed around the world.
Todd Leavitt, vice president of maritime systems at Northrop Grumman, noted that the system’s new version features a streamlined user interface that works to facilitate efficient navigation.
VMS 9.3 also includes functions for integrating with combat radar and mission planning submarine systems, Northrop said.
