AtrocityWatch has licensed a social analytics technology from Mitre Corp. in an effort to help peacekeepers forecast humanitarian atrocities globally.
Mitre said Wednesday the nonprofit organization intends to use the platform to detect early indicators of war crimes, genocide and other crimes against humanity.
“We are honored to see MITRE’s vision and pioneering research in social radar applied to a humanitarian application that has the potential to make the world a better place,†said Mark Maybury, a vice president and chief technology officer of Mitre.
Geoff Green, founder of AtrocityWatch, said Mitre’s technology is designed to analyze events, topics and sentiments on social media.
The organization has also been selected to receive pro bono professional services from Deloitte through the company’s Humanitarian Innovation Program.
