An Intel subsidiary and AlienVault have agreed to exchange cyber-related threat data in order to help enterprise customers avoid security breaches and hacks.
Intel Security plans to leverage AlienVault’s crowd-sourced Open Threat Exchange network in conjunction with Intel’s cloud-based Global Threat Intelligence platform to secure client systems, AlienVault said Tuesday.
“Our goal for OTX is to move the needle on how threat intelligence data is shared, making it more collaborative and engaging in order to build a stronger security community working in unison to stop cyber attacks,” said AlienVault President and CEO Barmak Meftah.
“Intel Security is committed to industry collaborations which will help provide critical threat intelligence and better protection to our customers,” added David Coffey, vice president of GTI at Intel Security’s McAfee Labs.
The cloud-based GTI system offers active cyber protection to more than six million customers worldwide, according to AlienVault.
OTX is designed to pool threat indicators from public and private sources globally and employs an algorithm to validate information sources and threats.
