Hughes Network Systems LLC has introduced a portable broadband global area network terminal that is intended to address customers’ requirements for communications on the move.
The Hughes 9211-HDR combined portable/mobile satellite terminal is designed to dock with a class 10 and class 11 mobile antenna, Hughes said Tuesday.
“Imagine using a 9211-HDR as a portable device to complete a high data rate session at 650+ kbps, then getting back into your vehicle to dock your 9211-HDR to a mobile antenna on the vehicle’s roof and using the 9211-HDR for voice and data using a wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection while on-the-move,†said Graham Avis, vice president and general manager of Hughes.
Hughes developed the BGAN terminal for various applications in the media, government, emergency response and mobile operations.
Greg Ewert, president of enterprise at Inmarsat, said the company expects to add value to its clients worldwide with new applications enabled by 9211-HDR.
