The Georgia Institute of Technology has inducted Christopher Jones, corporate vice president and president of technical services at Northrop Grumman, into the Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni for his achievements in the field of engineering.

Jones accepted the award from Dr. Gary S. May, Georgia Tech’s dean of college of engineering and electrical and computer engineering professor, and Dr. G. Wayne Clough, Georgia Tech’s president emeritus and Smithsonian Institute secretary, at a recognition ceremony held on April 25, the company said Tuesday.

“I’m honored to receive this recognition,” Jones said.

“The students, professors and atmosphere at Georgia Tech inspired in me a passion for achieving technical excellence in the aerospace field.”

The retired U.S. Air Force officer has been involved in Georgia Tech’s mentoring initiatives for engineers as part of science, technology, engineering and math programs and has taken part in the university’s engineering research efforts.

Jones is a member of various boards of directors, including the Air Force Association and the National Action Council for Minorities.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Georgia Tech, a master’s degree from the University of Dayton and a doctorate from the University of Maryland.
