Teresa Carlson, vice president of the worldwide public sector at Amazon Web Services, has observed that Silicon Valley-based technology companies have seen an opportunity to collaborate with federal agencies, she told the Washington Business Journal in an interview published Thursday.
“Government is going out there,” Carlson told the Business Journal’s Jill Aitoro, in reference to the U.S. government’s efforts to attract talent from Silicon Valley.
“But their goal is to bring the companies” in Washington, added Carlson, an inductee into Executive Mosaic‘s Wash100 for 2015.
She said she believes that Vivek Kundra, the first U.S. chief information officer, had pushed agencies to innovate and adopt new technology models.
Carlson also talked about AWS’ public sector business during the interview, saying the organization has worked with approximately 1,500 government organizations.
She noted that AWS aims to have a long-term business strategy in the federal marketplace.
