Chris Smith, vice president of technology at AT&T‘s government solutions unit and a former chief information officer from the Agriculture Department, has described his outlook on current developments in cyber-related legislation in a Federal News Radio interview.
In that conversation posted Monday on Federal News Radio that he sees progress in movement toward legislation of cyber information sharing and the overhaul of the Federal IT Acquisition Reform Act.
“I think it’s fantastic that we’ve got reinforcement of the authorities for the chief information officer… I think [FITARA] drives that seat at the table to a higher level and it says not only is the accountability there but the authority is now there as well,” Smith said.
He added that he believes the information-sharing measures are a step in what he sees as the “right direction” and have balances of data privacy and liability protections to drive cybersecurity efforts.
