Five high school seniors from Arlington, Texas, have become the first batch to complete their engineering internship in aeronautics at Lockheed Martin after seven months of exposure to laboratory and flight operations work.
The five students – Austin Smith (Martin High School), Abdallah Shishani (Juan Seguin High School), Benson Phillips and Amy Hughes (Arlington High School), and Colton McAfee (Bowie High School) – from the Arlington Independent School District submitted their final requirements under the Project Lead the Way curriculum, Lockheed said Thursday.
“The students have had an opportunity to engage in engineering assignments and projects,” said Laura Hopkins, Lockheed Martin corporate staffing director.
“They are making meaningful impacts on our business, and will continue to do so through their college studies and summer internships.â€
Project Lead the Way is a national program that seeks to promote science, technology, engineering and math as a career choice for kids through teacher training and K-12 curriculum development.
