Lockheed Martin has developed a framework to embed customized applications into the company’s ground station system offerings for satellite missions.
The company aims for its ground station app technology to integrate commercial tools, software and an open architecture, Lockheed said Tuesday.
Vinny Sica, vice president of space ground solutions at Lockheed Martin, said he estimates that software-based ground infrastructure could help operators save on service management costs by up to 15 percent.
Lockheed also seeks to help customers manage satellite missions simultaneously as well as increase communication efficiency between satellite technology and ground station controllers through the app platform.
