The Newport News Shipbuilding arm of Huntington Ingalls has selected United Technologies Corp. to supply the composite components for the next 10 Virginia-class nuclear attack submarines.
UTC said Wednesday the company is tasked to deliver bow dome, rubber boot and various external fairing structures through 2020 under the agreement.
Marc Duvall, president of UTC’s aerostructures segment, said the company’s team of engineers and manufacturing experts will build the composite structures in support of both Newport News Shipbuilding and General Dynamics Electric Boat for the submarine program.
UTC’s engineered polymer products team will perform work in Jacksonville, Florida.
