Amit Yoran, president of the RSA security division at EMC, has urged the technology security sector to go beyond “legacy mindsets” to address what he views as emerging challenges in the current threat environment.
Yoran, an inductee into Executive Mosaic‘s Wash100 for 2015, told attendees of this week’s RSA Conference that technology is not the problem for industry as it works to combat cyber threats.
“As an industry, we are on a journey that will continue to evolve in the years to come through the efforts of all of us here today,” he said.
He gave a five-point strategic approach to security that works to focus industry efforts on vigilance, network visibility, identity and authentication, external threat intelligence and prioritization.
Yoran noted that as advanced protections become insufficient to counter attacks, enterprises must leverage tools endpoint compromise assessment visibility, identity verification and operationalized threat intelligence to defend against hacks.
“You must understand what matters to your business and what is mission critical,” he added.
