Red Hat has received Common Criteria certification at Evaluation Assurance Level 4+ for its JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6.2 offering, indicating its capability to meet international security standards.
The company said Wednesday third-party assessor atsec information security evaluated the Red Hat product against the standards indicated in the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation.
“Common Criteria accreditation is a high watermark for security standards,” said Paul Smith, vice president and general manager of Red Hat’s public sector business.
“It is a nontrivial effort in terms of labor and economic investment, and is part of the value of the Red Hat subscription that differentiates enterprise-class open source from the projects from which they are derived.”
Red Hat noted that EAL4+ is the highest level of Common Criteria security assurance for commercial middleware platforms such as JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6.2.
Other Red Hat products with EAL4+ certification include JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 5.1.0 and 5.1.1.
