Exelis has handed Raytheon six updated ground encryptors built for installation in the operational control system of the U.S. Air Force’s global positioning system.
The encryptors are designed to help secure data transmitted between OCX and navigation payloads aboard the Air Force’s GPS satellites, Exelis said Wednesday.
Joe Rambala, Exelis vice president and general manager of positioning, navigation and timing, said the encryptors support the M-code military signal, which he described as “an integral part of the GPS modernization program.â€
Rambala added that the M-code is “important for the Defense Department because it provides a separate signal with high jam- and spoof-resistance strictly for military use versus civilian.â€
Exelis develops the encryptors to help the military customer prepare satellites for launch and provide security for military and civilian users.
