Orbital ATKÂ will provide Lockheed Martin the attitude control motor for the Orion spacecraft’s Launch Abort System under a $90 million subcontract to support NASA‘s future deep-space missions.
The attitude control motor works to provide the LAS steering controls to maneuver Orion away from the launch vehicle in case of emergency, Orbital ATK said Tuesday.
“Orbital ATK’s continued support to NASA demonstrates our long-standing commitment to our nation’s human spaceflight program,” said Mike Kahn, president of Orbital ATK’s defense systems group and an inductee into Executive Mosaic‘s Wash100 for 2015.
The company noted that it also provided the primary launch abort motor for LAS as well as contributed to initial system design and engineering.
