Raytheon logo_EbizThe U.S. Navy has declared initial operating capability for a Raytheon-built medium range air-to-air missile system after the military service completed flight testing of the technology.

Raytheon said Thursday the Navy tested the AMRAAM AIM-120D missile on F/A-18 fighters and is scheduled to deploy the system later this year.

According to the company, the U.S. Air Force has finished operational tests for the defense weapon platform.

The AIM-120D hit targets in different simulated combat environments during a flight demonstration conducted by the military branch, Raytheon said.

USAF conducted the missile evaluation to validate the system’s readiness for overseas deployment.

AMRAAMs have been used by 36 countries and integrated into F-15, F-16, F/A-18, F-22, F-35, F-4, Typhoon, Gripen, Tornado and Harrier aircraft platforms.
