Exelis and L-3 Communications‘ platform integration unit have teamed to develop electronic countermeasures designed to integrate with special operations tanker aircraft for the U.S. Air Force.
The companies aim to offer an electronic self-protection technology for integration into AC/MC-130J Commando II planes of the Air Force’s special operations command through the partnership, Exelis said Tuesday.
Mitch Friedman, vice president and general manager of Exelis’ integrated electronic warfare systems business, said the company has worked with L-3 on special-mission EW programs since the 1990s.
Friedman added the alliance seeks to help military customers execute tasks in an electromagnetic operational environment through technology.
The platform will be built to help protect AFSOC aviators from radio frequency threats when they conduct operations worldwide, Exelis said.
