Navy League of the U.S. has presented the 2015 Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Award to retired Irwin Edenzon, president of Ingalls Shipbuilding from 2011 to 2014, citing his decades-long work on sea services for the military branch.
Edenzon was nominated for the prize by Mike Petters, president and CEO of Ingalls parent company Huntington Ingalls Industries, and recommended by industry, defense and government leaders, HII said Wednesday.
“Ingalls’ successes with several complex and important contracts are due to the hard work of the team led by Irwin,†Petters said in a message to mark the recognition.
“His shipbuilders improved performance in every aspect of Ingalls and, by doing so, enhanced customer relationships.â€
Edenzon accepted the award from Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., at an evening reception held in National Harbor, Maryland, Tuesday.
