Lockheed Martin and Fincantieri subsidiary Marinette Marine have received a $232 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to build two new littoral combat ships, plus another LCS if the added contract option is exercised.
Fincantieri said Thursday Congress has appropriated full funding for LCS 21 and advanced procurement funding for LCS 23, while funding for LCS 25 under the contract option could be allocated in 2016.
LCS 21 and LCS 23 are the last two Freedom-class LCSÂ vessels, the company added.
Marinette Marine’s shipyard is host to the construction of LCS 5 (Milwaukee), LCS 7 (Detroit), LCS 9 (Little Rock), LCS 11 (Sioux City), LCS 13 (Wichita), LCS 15 (Billings), LCS 17 (Indianapolis) and LCS 19.
