General Dynamics has completed development, initial integration work and tests of the bearer network and basic ground terminal hardware and software for Increment A3 of NASA‘s Space Network Ground Segment Sustainment program.

The company said Monday it performed work at its SGSS development and test laboratory in Arizona, which provides simulations of daily operations at a live NASA Space Network ground station.

“Testing all of the SGSS ground system elements in [a] ‘real-life’ ground station environment will also streamline the integration of the new digital system as it replaces the legacy Space Network system that is decades old,” said Chris Marzilli, president of General Dynamics’ mission systems unit and an inductee into Executive Mosaic‘s Wash100 for 2015.

SGSS Increment A3 includes mission data transmission and telemetry capabilities for the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System, General Dynamics said.

General Dynamics is working with partners such as Harris Corp., MetiSpace Technologies, Rincon Research Corp., a.i. solutions, RT Logic and Qwaltec on the SGSS program, which the Goddard Space Flight Center manages.

SGSS works to support the Space Network’s telecommunications and tracking operations and will move forward to Increment A4 or the Functional Ground Terminal Space Network Operations Center, General Dynamics said.
