DRS Technologies has been awarded a $55 million contract with the U.S. Navy to install voice communications systems in the Aegis cruisers and destroyers.
The integrated communications systems will link to the ships’ announcement system, shore telephone lines, radio and sound-powered telephone circuits, DRS said Wednesday.
DRS will begin the installation process in 2015.
The IVCS combines DRS’ voice system with Avaya’s Aura unified communications platform and Dynalec’s electronics rack and power distribution system.
The system comprises interconnected interior-communications switching centers, dial terminals, network terminals, terminal accessories and associated cabling.
