Bechtel has obtained Federal Aviation Administration approval to use unmanned aircraft systems on the company’s construction works in the United States.
Mike Lewis, Bechtel’s manager of construction, said Monday the company partnered with Skycatch to integrate drones into Bechtel’s execution systems for various projects worldwide.
“This technology helps improve safety and quality of project delivery by providing real-time data and analysis to project teams so they can act in a timely manner,†Lewis added.
Bechtel plans to gather environmental data in real time for operational safety, survey terrains to supply data to engineering teams and monitor the pace of construction projects using the Skycatch-developed UAS technology.
Skycatch built an automated power system into the drone platform to recharge the system during operation in order to avoid service interruptions.
The system is also designed to carry cameras, infrared scanners, thermal sensors and radiation monitors.
