A U.S.-based, wholly owned subsidiary of Inmarsat has completed airborne testing of its L-band Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance service that works to provide up to 10 Mbps broadband data transmission rate.
Inmarsat Government said Thursday public sector customers can use LAISR for applications such as unmanned aircraft systems, signals intelligence and synthetic aperture radar support as well as electro-optical and infrared systems.
“Today’s volatile and rapidly changing world requires increasingly sophisticated [airborne ISR] capabilities, and we’re proud to soon offer this new LAISR service in support of our U.S. government customers and channel partners,” said Susan Miller, president and CEO of Inmarsat Government.
According to Inmarsat Government, government agencies can access the service by June.
“[LAISR]Â will operate on Inmarsat’s advanced Alphasat L-band satellite covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with further plans to operate globally on Inmarsat’s extended L-band fleet,” Miller added.
LAISR supports the transmission of full-motion video and data through the Inmarsat Satellite Access Station and interoperates with the Inmarsat SwiftBroadband service to facilitate situational awareness for military and intelligence operations.
