The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority has tapped into Cloudera big data technology as part of an initiative to monitor securities trading activities in the United States.
Cloudera said Tuesday that FINRA uses a regulatory infrastructure to merge data feeds from more than 4,000 securities companies and stock exchanges each day to uncover market manipulation incidents.
The company intends for its enterprise architecture to help the non-governmental organization to create and manage a graph database of up to 50 billion industry events.
“For a regulatory authority like FINRA, it is vital that technology deployments not only handle the growth of U.S. financial markets, but also provide fast, reliable analytics in order to protect investors,” said Steve Totman, Cloudera big data technology evangelist and financial services subject matter expert.
Cloudera’s Apache Hadoop-based platform is also designed to allow users to leverage an elastic computing feature through an Amazon Web Services public cloud system.
