Northrop Grumman has performed qualification tests on its radiation-hardened W28C0108 electrically erasable programmable read-only memory device that is used in space to store mission data.
The company said Monday the EEPROM semiconductor device has 1-megabit memory, operates across the military temperature range and features latch-up immunity functions for space operations.
Qualification tests included heavy ion latch-up tests and dynamic life tests at 302 degrees, which pointed to memory retention to extend beyond 200 years at 257 degrees.
According to Northrop, W28C0108 is based on the W28C256 EEPROM and was fabricated at the company’s Advanced Technology Laboratories in partnership with Sandia National Laboratories.
