A Huntington Ingalls Industries division is set to hold a christening ceremony for the USS John P. Murtha amphibious transport dock on Saturday, with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi scheduled as a featured speaker.
The event will take place at Ingalls Shipbuilding‘s Visitor Control Center a day after division President Brian Cuccias, Navy Capt. Kevin Parker and the Murtha shipbuilding team meet with members of the press, HII said Monday.
The vessel is the 10th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship and named after John Murtha, a military veteran who represented Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district in Congress from 1974 until his death in 2010.
HII President and CEO Mike Petters will also attend the event and Murtha’s daughter Donna will lead the christening as the ship’s sponsor.
