General Dynamics‘ mission systems business has tested the voice and data satellite communications between the U.S. Navy‘s Digital Modular Radios and the U.S. Army‘s AN/PRC-155 Manpack radios with the Mobile User Objective System.
The company said Monday it conducted the test at its MUOS test facility in Arizona using satellite communications and ground station simulators.
“The success of this test is important because it demonstrates the Navy’s work, in collaboration with the Army, to deliver on the promise of the MUOS satellite communications to joint forces worldwide,” said Chris Marzilli, president of General Dynamics’ mission systems unit and an inductee into Executive Mosaic‘s Wash100 for 2015.
According to General Dynamics, DMR is a software-defined radio built on open architecture standards.
The Navy uses DMR as a networking radio and has deployed 500 four-channel units to support various onshore and offshore operations, the company added.
