GEGE’s intelligent platforms business will perform a six-month research on radar systems in an effort to help the U.S. Air Force establish open architectures for future radar processors onboard the service’s platforms.

The research program covers the benchmarking and optimization of synthetic aperture radar and ground moving target indicator radar modes on multiprocessor high-performance embedded computing systems, GE said Tuesday.

David Tetley, HPEC systems engineering manager at GE’s intelligent platforms business, said the research project is meant to “help create the radar processor architectures of the future.”

GE will perform work at its HPEC center of excellence in Billerica, Massachusetts.

The company will also develop a laboratory-based processor system for rugged deployment on Air Force platforms.

GE’s HPEC center focuses on the development of various products and services for military and aerospace embedded computing.
