Robert Silverman, a senior vice president of Booz Allen Hamilton Inc., is supporting a new slate of fund raising campaigns of ALS Association’s Washington chapter, Washington Business Journal reported Thursday.
Jeremy Beale writes ALSA plans to roll out the Dine to Defeat ALS, Walk to Defeat ALS and the ALS Challenge in August with the goal of raising awareness among businesses in the region about the Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The new fundraisers build on the success of the Ice Bucket Challenge, which raised $115 million for the association, according to the report.
“The Ice Bucket Challenge was a nice start for ALS, but we are more than that,†Silverman told the Journal.
“Let us not forget why we did the challenge in the first place,†he added.
The local ALS chapter used the money raised from the previous year’s campaign to support local patients through 92 respite care grants, six ALS multidisciplinary clinics, as well as more than 2,000 pieces of equipment and 400 pieces of assistive technology tools.
