STEMLou Von Thaer, president of the national security sector business at Leidos, will be a co-keynote speaker at a company-sponsored symposium on how parents can best engage kids in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Von Thaer, a Wash100 inductee, headlines the WashingtonExec 2015 K-12 STEM Symposium on March 7 with Evan Glazer, principal at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, the Herald Online reported Thursday.

“We’re very excited to continue our sponsorship and participation in… [this] fun and interactive event that engages young minds in all aspects of STEM,” Von Thaer said.

“Encouraging students to pursue an education and career in STEM is critical to building the future workforce.”

Rob Zitz, Leidos chief systems architect, is among the list of panelists that also include Michele Weslander-Quaid, Google’s global cloud ecosystem community lead.

The event will feature exhibits from students, government, nonprofit organizations, the academe and industry, including Booz Allen Hamilton, the Boy Scouts of America, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, George Mason University, Leidos, Vencore and Women in Technology.
