James Turley, former chairman and CEO of Ernst & Young, has joined Northrop Grumman’s board of directors.

Turley, who joined EY in 1977, held various roles at the company until his retirement in 2013, Northrop said Thursday.

He was named EY’s regional managing partner for the Upper Midwest in 1994 and for New York in 1998.

Turley also served as EY’s deputy chairman in 2000 before he became the chairman and CEO in 2001.

Wes Bush, chairman, CEO and president of Northrop Grumman, said Turley will leverage his global corporate and leadership background “to contribute to Northrop Grumman’s focus on performance for our shareholders, customers and employees.”

Turley serves on the corporate boards for Citigroup, Emerson Electric and Intrexon.
