Exelis Unveils First CorvusEye Nighttime Imagery; Dwight Greenlee Comments

Exelis has debuted the first nighttime imagery taken with the CorvusEye 1500 airborne system that is intended for use in commercial and government surveillance applications.

The wide-area airborne system captured images depicting cars and pedestrians in downtown Rochester from an altitude of 15,000 feet using a mid-wave infrared sensor, Exelis said Monday.

Dwight Greenlee, Exelis director of regional surveillance, said CorvusEye is designed to provide “context from the air for situations that may be dangerous or inaccessible on the ground.”

“It can generate up to 10 high-resolution views of different areas of interest simultaneously, which can give law enforcement, military or border patrol personnel the relevant information they need to act,” Greenlee added.

The CorvusEye system, which the company launched in October 2014, captures high-resolution, visible color and IR motion imagery over a wide area of up to 1.24 miles in diameter.
