John Chambers, CEO of Cisco Systems, forecasts that Internet of Things and digital technologies will transform organizations and be at the forefront of market transitions, he told the Wall Street Journal in an interview published Monday.
“I think in this next decade, information technology will be in vogue again,” he told WSJ reporter Scott Thurm.
“It will be centered all around these new concepts, and the role of the chief information officer can change dramatically,” he added, according to the newspaper.
Chambers believes CIOs must ensure their organizations are getting proper IT equipment for data management at the right time and should help their organizations reinvent to keep pace with digital transformation.
He said organizations could actually analyze and manage big data at the edge of a computer network and they could run large amounts of information in data centers or in wide area networks by configuring applications.
