Chris Borneman, vice president of Software AG‘s government solutions business, has projected changes for data center technologies and operations in the next five years.
In an FCW opinion piece published Thursday, Borneman predicts the future data center infrastructure will comprise of processing, memory and storage hardware tiers and that applications will have an elasticity feature designed to meet organizations’ changing information technology needs.
He also expects more federal agencies to adopt in-memory computing tools with the aim to cut application response times.
He offered several strategies for organizations to prepare for the data center of the future.
According to Borneman, enterprises should implement consolidation incrementally and document application interdependencies as well as have a governance model and a security framework in place.
“Establishing a governance framework can ensure that all changes are coordinated and communicated, requests for duplicate services are eliminated, licensing requirements are met, and solid architecture principles are followed.”
He also recommended that organizations consider a data center’s location, storage encryption requirements and auditability when they consolidate infrastructure.
