William Britton, vice president for cyber strategy at Parsons, has started a two-year term as visiting director of the California Polytechnic State University’s Cybersecurity Center and will lead the university’s cyber initiative.

Parsons said Monday Britton will be responsible for the center’s research, educational, partnering and outreach efforts.

“Bill has more than 30 years of national security experience within both government and industry, and his sole purpose for the next 2 years will be to focus on Cal Poly’s cyber initiative and to help move it into the future,” said Chuck Harrington, Parsons chairman and CEO.

The company said the initiative aims to produce graduates with specializations in cybersecurity and its applications in other fields and train them to potentially support the intelligence community and national defense industry in the future.

Debra Larson, dean of the Cal Poly College of Engineering, noted that the partnership with Parsons presents an example of university-industry cooperation to foster education opportunities.

Parsons said it has pledged $100,000 in support of the cyber initiative and is a member of the university’s cybersecurity council.
