MarkLogic‘s Idriss Mekrez believes enterprise data layers will work to consolidate and manage data infrastructure for companies as they seek to eliminate data silo issues such as data redundancy and information security.
“[An] enterprise data layer presents a streamlined and manageable approach for CIOs tasked to provide appropriate access to data while ensuring the security of their enterprise information,” Mekrez, MarkLogic’s chief technology officer for the public sector, wrote in a guest piece published Thursday on Government CIO Magazine.
EDL serves as an agile platform that features a data store and interface to manage both data sources and applications and as a tool that enables search, query, discovery and aggregation functions, he says.
He also notes that EDL addresses concerns over data ownership, exploitation and control related to the access and sharing of information across the enterprise.
According to Mekrez, EDL also works to reduce the time and cost to implement new products and to integrate potential changes in data sources and other system components.
Other features include high availability, scalability, database backup and web-based administration.
