Leon Panetta, former Pentagon and CIAÂ chief, has been elected to the board of directors at Oracle.
The yearlong appointment, which brings the number of Oracle’s board members to 12, was made via unanimous decision at the company’s annual shareholders meeting, Oracle said Monday.
“Panetta is a dynamic leader with a distinguished record of public service at the highest levels of government,†said Michael Boskin, Oracle chief technology officer and independent chair of the board’s nomination and governance committee.
“He will add deep expertise and brings a fresh perspective to our board.”
Panetta was CIA director from 2009 to 2011 before he was tapped to lead the Defense Department through 2013.
He is a book author, co-founded the Panetta Institute for Public Policy and is on the board of trustees of Santa Clara University.
